Not all houses come with garages. That means that your car is just sitting out there in your driveway unprotected. However, you may be able to change that by putting in a carport. 

Carports

Unlike garages, which are an actual enclosed room with three walls and a door, a carport is usually a roof with supports. Generally, carports are open on at least two sides, but there are also metal enclosed carports. Carports generally aren't insulated like a garage would be, and you may not have a connecting door from your carport into your home. There are several benefits to having a carport if you don't have a garage. 

Extra Vehicle Storage

If you have a car that you don't drive often, or a boat, RV, or motorcycle, you can use the carport to store it in when you aren't using it. This would be a good option even if your house has come with a garage because you can store the extra vehicle under the carport and use your garage for the vehicles that you drive daily so that all your vehicles are protected from the weather. 

Added Play Space

One benefit has nothing at all to do with a vehicle, and that is additional play space. If it's warm but raining or too hot and sunny to play outside, you could use an enclosed or semi-enclosed carport as a place for your kids to play. All you would have to do is pull your car out and let them play. That will make sure that they get some fresh air and can run around and get some of their energy out without messing up your house too much at the same time. 

Safety

Leaving your car out in the open, on the street or in a driveway, puts it at risk of being vandalized or burglarized. Being able to put it in a carport can make it harder for people to vandalize or break into your car. Most of the people who do those things want to be able to get in, do it, and get out. They don't want to risk being trapped inside a structure like your carport.
